World Environment Day 2025 – Beat Plastic Pollution
For clear vision and a clear conscience: Premium lenses in a closed-loop system. 0% microplastics. 100% responsibility.

For World Environment Day 2025, under the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution," the Silhouette Group is making a bold statement: As a trailblazer in the eyewear industry, we’re proving that outstanding product quality and true environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. With an innovative lens manufacturing process, the Silhouette Group actively prevents the release of microplastics into wastewater – an environmental issue that has received little attention in the industry until now. At the Lens Lab at our company headquarters in Linz, lenses without optical properties are dry-milled – with no water used at all. Plastic shavings are extracted immediately and recycled. Drilling and edging are also done without water, and all residue is fed back into the recycling loop. Even optical lenses undergo grinding without releasing microplastics into the water system.
The secret? A fully closed production cycle – engineered to perfection.
Silhouette reuses and purifies cooling water through two internal treatment facilities. The water is thoroughly cleaned multiple times before being released into the sewage system – ensuring no contamination along the way. This process allows Silhouette to produce lenses that are 100% microplastic-free – an exceptional achievement in and beyond the optics sector.
A win for the environment, retailers, and consumers
A milestone in optical manufacturing: The Silhouette Group is simplifying the daily work of optical professionals while delivering real added value for consumers. Optical retailers receive customized premium lenses that are ready to use – eliminating the need for environmentally harmful grinding of blanks, the largest source of microplastics in traditional craftsmanship. That means more time for what truly matters: personalized, high-quality consultations. Customers benefit from crystal-clear vision – and the satisfaction of making an environmentally responsible choice.
And nature? It breathes easier – day by day, in ways that are both visible and measurable.
