Carbon-neutral production without offsetting by 2027

Carbon-neutral production without offsetting by 2027

As a family-owned business, the Silhouette Group has always been mindful of the future of the planet. For many years now, we’ve been pursuing a goal to reduce our CO2 emissions to zero. So far, we’ve managed to halve our CO2 emissions to 2,000 tons per year within the space of seven years. Back in September 2022, we reached an important milestone: our eyewear production achieved the status of carbon-neutral with offsetting. The remaining tons are offset by acquiring certificates from international Gold Standard projects. In 2023, an independent third party - TÜV Austria - audited our carbon footprint, as it had done the year before. Deriving from this, we cemented our key objective by adding a timeline, and we’re now working hard to ensure that our eyewear production is carbon-neutral without external offsetting by 2027.

CO2 offsetting in India

Electricity is the most used form of power in eyewear production, which is why we are paying special attention to this, not only in terms of our own production, but also by looking beyond our company and our national borders. In order to offset the currently remaining amount of CO2, we support a 400 MW solar panel system in Bhadla, Rajasthan, India. The electricity generated there is fed into the Indian regional grid.
