Eyewear production gas-free from April 2026

On World Earth Day, we’re sending a clear message and showing how industry can be part of the solution.

We are completely eliminating fossil natural gas at our Linz location. By electrifying key production steps, our eyewear production will operate 100% without fossil natural gas starting in April 2026. This will save us several hundred megawatt-hours of natural gas and more than 100 tons of CO₂ annually.

This step demonstrates that industrial production and consistent climate protection are compatible, and that manufacturing companies can also play an active role in the transformation.

The decarbonization of industry is one of the great challenges of our time. By eliminating natural gas at our Linz site, we are demonstrating that sustainable production is possible even in industry. Our goal is to actively help shape this transformation—as a driver of innovation and a role model for our industry,” said Thomas Windischbauer, COO of the Silhouette Group.

Final step toward natural gas-free production

In 2026, the final step follows: By converting the last gas-heated warehouse, we will save an additional 70 MWh of natural gas and approximately 18 tons of CO₂ per year.

On World Earth Day 2026, themed “Our Power, Our Planet,” we are sending a clear signal about the transformation of industry: Sustainability begins where products are created—in production itself. Change is therefore not only taking place in strategies and objectives, but is being concretely implemented in everyday industrial life. A frequently heard criticism of the sustainability debate is thus transformed into a measurable step in practice.

For us, this means that not only is the so-called “hot air” disappearing from the discussion on sustainability, but fossil natural gas is also being eliminated from production.
