Three years of carbon-neutral eyewear production with compensation

Not perfect, but 50% better.
Since September 7, 2022, our eyewear production has been CO₂-neutral – through carefully applied compensation measures. But we don’t see this as the end point, rather as a starting point: over the past seven years, we’ve reduced our CO₂ emissions in eyewear production by more than 50% on our own, and by another 400 tons just last year. Our clear principle: reduction before compensation. We are committed to actively and consistently avoiding emissions. Only what is (still) unavoidable today is compensated – with high-quality Gold Standard certificates. Our CO₂ accounting is reviewed annually by TÜV Austria.
400 tons: measurable progress
Many of our targeted reduction measures are already showing results – two of them stand out in particular. With the planned complete phase-out of gas in August 2025, we’ll reach another decisive milestone. This step will not only make us more independent, but starting in Q3 2025, it will also significantly reduce our emissions.
Another highly effective lever lies outside our production facilities: employee mobility. Through an internal survey with a strong participation rate (60%), we were able to collect reliable data on commuting behavior for the first time. The result: a CO₂ correction of 310 tons compared to the previous year and a solid foundation for future measures to reduce emissions in this area.
Our mission? CO₂-neutral eyewear production without external compensation.
The long-term goal is clear – climate-neutral eyewear production without compensation. A company-wide internal task force is working to make processes, buildings, and materials more climate-friendly. In doing so, we take a holistic view of emissions across the three scopes:
-
Scope 1: Direct emissions from company-owned sources
-
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased energy
-
Scope 3: All other indirect emissions along the entire value chain – e.g., from business travel, purchased materials, employee mobility, or the use of sold products. This is our current focus.
Sustainability is not a state, but a journey.
And we continue to move forward – step by step.
